Pyrithione Based Shampoo: These shampoos contain pyrithione which is an antifungal and an antibacterial. It is easily available in the market as an over the counter medication.
Some of the home remedies for dandruff are as follows:
Fenugreek: Soak fenugreek overnight and make a fine paste along with a few drops of lemon. Apply the paste to the scalp and let it rest for 30 minutes. Wash off with warm water. The acidity of the fenugreek and lemon makes the scalp pH acidic prohibiting the infection to proliferate.
Tea Tree Oil: In ancient times, tea tree oil was used as an antiseptic and an antibiotic. Tea Tree oil’s properties make an amazing fix for scalp infections which causes dandruff. Warm the tea tree oil, apply and massage scalp for 20 minutes. Wash off hair after 1 hour.
Lemon and Coconut oil: The addition of lemon and coconut oil to the scalp and soaking it for 15 minutes before showering shows good results.

Do not overdo: Washing your hair too often and not washing your hair at all are leading causes of dandruff. Be sure to wash your hair once in 2-3 days. Do not wash hair everyday, preferably do not shampoo your hair everyday as it rips off the oil on the scalp causing excessive secretion of sebum.This in turn makes scalp prone to dandruff.
Manage Stress: Stress causes excessive secretion of sebum in our body, and its effects are clearly visible in the scalp. Try not to stress too much. Be calm and when stressed, performing breathing control and deep breathing exercises will help.
Reduce Junk eating: Junk food causes excessive production of sebum which in turn causes dandruff. Go easy on the junk food and keep yourself hydrated.
