Indian Government policies are making it easier for people to lead healthier lives. To ensure the success of this initiative, they introduced a preventive health check–up deduction in 2013–14 that encouraged people to identify illnesses early and visit a doctor frequently.

Under Section 80D tax payers are allowed a deduction of up to Rs.1500 from their taxable income to take preventive health checks. To add on to this, refunds are available for medical expenses.

Limits of 25,000 for individuals and 50,000 for senior citizens apply to the amount that can be claimed for self, spouse, dependent children, or parents.

Here’s a table that explain the deduction of Section 80D more clearly.
