Marijuana has been around for quite some time and it is indeed safe to say that it has been in the limelight for all the wrong reasons.

Amidst the negativity surrounding marijuana, the concept of medical marijuana keeps coming up once in a while. Now while some countries like Amsterdam and Colorado have given medical marijuana a chance, a major part of the world is yet to be convinced about the benefits of medical marijuana. ‘

If you are standing on the side that is yet to be convinced, read on to know how medical marijuana brought about a ray of hope for people whose lives seemed to have given up on them

Rick Simpson: He is known as the man who ‘rediscovered’ the cure for cancer. In 2003, Rick himself was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma skin cancer and after all the attempts at surgery failed, he decided to take the road less taken and use cannabis oil which he had been extracting from the cannabis plant for other reasons. He applied the cannabis oil to his skin cancer, covered the spots with some bandages and after a couple days, his skin cancer was gone. Gone for goood! Call him Doctor Strange but he knew his way around cannabis. You can watch his documentary ‘Run from the Cure’ here.

Charlotte Figi: Charlotte Figi suffered from Dravet’s syndrome (A rare and severe form of epilepsy) and her hopes for a happy life seemed bleak with her 300+ seizures every week with some seizures lasting for multiple hours. All her treatment options had reached a dead end and that’s when her parents, Matt and Paige Figi decided to give medical marijuana a chance. The results were immediate with her seizures reduced to as low as one per week. Specifically for Charlotte, the Stanley brothers (who were providing medical marijuana to the Figi family) came up with a crossbred between industrial hemp and a strain of marijuana which was high in CBD (known to have analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-anxiety properties without the psychoactive effects) and extremely low in THC (known to produce the ‘high’ effect in marijuana). This form of cannabis came to be known as ‘Charlotte’s Web.’

Dennis Hill: Dennis Hill was diagnosed with aggressive stage III adenocarcinoma (a form of prostate cancer) and was all set to face the trials and tribunals that come with cancer. Just then, his friend told him that ‘Cannabis cures cancer.’ (Thank you, Rick!) and as fate had it, the first human trials of cannabis treatment of astrocytomas (inoperable brain cancer), were published with encouraging results around the same time. Another friend came to the rescue and made him some cannabis butter and in three months along with moderate exercise and a healthy diet, the primary cancer was gone with only minor metastatic lesions left. As fate had it again, Dennis found a supplier of Rick Simpson oil and killed off the metastases in the next three months. After hitting cancer out the park, he swears by a maintenance dose of locally produced hash oil that is 1:1 THC:CBD with about a 30% potency. You can read Dennis Hill’s treatment journal here.

Peter Germain: Peter Germain suffered from Type-2 diabetes and it took a heavy toll on his quality of life. He was taking over 8 pills a day and the doctor had given up on his condition after declaring that regular medication is the maximum that can be done to tackle the situation. After relying on medication and still failing to get a hold on his blood sugar, he turned to a lil’ something the people called ‘’Rick Simpson Oil’ and within six weeks, his blood sugar levels decreased and overtime, he lost approximately 50 pounds and witnessed a massive rise in his quality of life. What can we say, the Rick Simpson oil never disappoints!

Kristen Courtney: At just 16 years old, Kristen Courtney was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis from Crohn’s disease and this quickly turned into an autoimmune disorder which left her bedridden for over four years. All forms of alternate treatments showed no results when finally, she turned to medical marijuana and just like you would expect, it worked. She consumed raw cannabis leaves and flowers in the form of a juice and claimed that just after a month, her pain stopped and all her symptoms completely turned around. She went from taking over 40 prescription medicines daily to taking just a few.

As Dennis Hill rightly said, ““Many who have sought out cannabis as a last resort have recovered. It’s never too late.”

Either, all these stories are miracles that happened the moment  marijuana was brought in the picture or medical marijuana is indeed a real thing. It’s upto you to decide.
