Hypertension is the most common non communicable disease prevalent in the population, only after Diabetes Mellitus. Statistics suggest that every third person you meet is either a suffering from hypertension or would in the future.

Hypertension is defined as repeatedly elevated blood pressure, exceeding 140 mmHg over 90 mmHg— a systolic pressure above 140 with a diastolic pressure above 90
According to World Health Organisation: Hypertension, also known as high or raised blood pressure, is a condition in which the blood vessels have persistently raised pressure. Blood is carried from the heart to all parts of the body in the vessels. Each time the heart beats, it pumps blood into the vessels. Blood pressure is created by the force of blood pushing against the walls of blood vessels (arteries) as it is pumped by the heart. The higher the pressure the harder the heart has to pump.

Age: The older you get, the higher the chances of you being diagnosed with hypertension.

Repeated action of such exaggerated pumping causes hypertensive state of the heart wherein the heart continues to pump at an excessive rate even during positive pedal blood flow.
