Back pain is one of the most common issues encountered by the working population. Back pain drastically decreases quality of life in individuals. Making them susceptible to emotional imbalance, depression etc.
It is common knowledge that back pain occurs due to excessive activity oer when an individual continues to sit for long hours. Although back pain is inevitable, it can be prevented from future occurings by taking a few preventive measures.

Upper Back Ache: Individuals suffer pain explicitly only on the upper back. It is mostly caused due to wrong posture, carrying of heavy backpacks and sling bags, hunching, working on the laptop etc
Lower Back Ache: Individuals suffer pain in the lower back that might radiate to the calf. It is mostly caused due to long standing hours, long sitting hours, excessive driving, carrying heavy objects etc.
Trigger Point Pain: Individuals who have suffered upper back or lower back pain for more than 2 months end up suffering from trigger point pain which is localised to a single point in the back that causes immense pain with any movement sometimes even breathing causes pain.
The Symptoms of Back Pain include:
- Muscle Ache
- Shooting or stabbing pain in the back
- Reduced range of motion of back
- Restricted activity pattern
- Restricted rotational and bending movements
- Radiating pain to the leg
Most Back Aches gradually reduces with complete bed rest and Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs.
Some of the chronic back aches do not recede with rest. Although they seem to subside temporarily, they emerge after a long day’s work. It can be tackled with adequate back strengthening exercises and core exercises.
When to seek immediate help?
When back pain is shooting and interferes with daily activities, when there is involvement of bowel and bladder issues(urinary incontinence etc), shooting right after an injury to the back, when it is accompanied by fever and if the severity of the pain does not improve with bed rest, causes weakness or numbness or tingling pain in one or both the feet.
